Once a rural settlement, Dompierre
has grown fast and attracted a more diverse population. However,
the town wisely sought to control urban development and preserve
its "human dimension", keeping the population at around 5,000.
This explains the friendly atmosphere of the town centre, which
was restored and renovated around the church and market square.
