The most striking feature of Nieul-sur-Mer
is probably Le Plomb, its typical oyster-farming port which
has now been opened to pleasure craft. The port and, in the
background, the fishermen's village of Lauzières, attract numerous
tourists all year round.
The town has a number of very active associations; indeed, the
Nieul archery club has earned quite a reputation, as have the
boxing club and the choral society (called "Sol fa sans ré",
a play on words which borrows from the musical scale to sound
like "facing Ré Island"). |
