| As early as November 2000, La Rochelle's automatic
call distributors were equipped to offer users subscriptions to ADSL
access. Since that time, the service was extencted to the 18 municipalities
of the conurbation. |
n La Rochelle's
urban area and the city of Rochefort were part of the first wave of
medium-size cities in France and in the region to offer the service,
thanks to the local authorities' determination, very early
on, to offer local users and small businesses benefit rapidly from
always-on high-speed connection.
As the telecommunications market opens up to competition, one of the
objectives of the La Rochelle-Rochefort joint board, "interactive
territory", is to examine every opportunity for improving local telecom
service in terms of competitive bandwidth, coverage and cost:
| - |
Analysis of the needs of businesses,
individuals and public authorities, now and in the future |
| - |
Strategy for attracting operators |
| - |
Review of proposals for installation
and negotiation with local-loop operators (cable, wireless access,
UMTS, XDSL, etc.) |
Objective: deployment of an "information superhighway" so that the area and local population can benefit fully from this service. |
