| La Rochelle, boasting no less than four ports,
founds much of its economic activity on these assets. |
n The
Minimes marina, inaugurated in 1972, is continuously accessible and boasts a 3,600 berthing capacity,
making it France's largest mooring facility.
By 2010, the expanded marina wil accommodate 4,500 boats.
The superyacht basin is located in the
Vieux Port, right in the city centre.
The commercial port
The La Rochelle-Pallice port enjoys not only an advantageous
seaport location but also exceptional access facilities.
The only deepwater port on the Atlantic seaboard, with a sea-lane to the ocean
but protected by barrier islands, it has quayside mooring
for ships drawing 14 metres and is rated by Lloyd’s the best port
on the Atlantic. It can accommodate ships of over 100,000 TDW.
Projects to upgrade the rail and road service at La Pallice are in
the pipeline for the coming years.
The fishing port
Opened in 1994, the Fishing Port at Chef-de-Baie is one
of the most modern in Europe.
With a 30,000-ton processing capacity along an unbroken cold chain,
it provides professionals with a complete array of facilities: auction
hall, fish trade rooms, sorting shop and cold store.
Chef-de-Baie is a deepwater port accessible 24 hours a day and featuring
a 10-hectare basin. |
