Greater La Rochelle is riding the tidal wave
of information and communications technologies. More than sixty ICT
companies and small businesses have already taken root in the conurbation.
The local authority inaugurated an "enterprise hotel" in
2005 intended specifically for companies specializing in ICTs. |
n In addition
to La Rochelle's quality of life, businesses in this industry
benefit from a pool of highly application-oriented scientific expertise
(L3I, the university laboratory of computing and industrial imagery)
and, for more than two years now, broadband Internet access via
ADSL.
- An interactive
area
In 2001, the Urban Communities of La Rochelle and Rochefort-sur-Mer,
the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of La Rochelle and Rochefort-Saintonge,
and the University of La Rochelle created a joint board on information
technologies, called "La Rochelle - Rochefort, interactive territory" : www.larochellerochefort.com
- ICT "enterprise
hotel"
The Urban Community of La Rochelle opened an
"enterprise hotel", office space reserved for projects involving
information and communications technologies. The 1200-square
meter building is located near the University. It comprises
some twenty offices, ranging in size from 25 to 100 m2,
and a meeting room with ADSL access. This
building adds to the already highly diversified offering and
complements the technology "incubator" at Chef-de-Baie, which focuses
on technologically innovative projects.
- Specialised
laboratory
The L3I Laboratory works in two fields: image analysis
and synthesis and computer engineering in imaging systems. L3I
devotes its research largely to high-definition digital imaging,
with the goal of enhancing knowledge for better processing. A
speciality at L3I is its work on image sequencing. Image sequence
processing has become indispensable in many fields, including
medical imaging, cinema and the arts.
Research at L3I finds applications in a broad variety of specialised
uses, such as film restoration, multimedia, medical imaging, documentary
sound tracks or industrial fish sorting.
