A strong identity |
| At a time when our planet seems to shrink under
the combined impact of communications technologies and economic trade,
La Rochelle and its Urban Community intend to maintain their global
outlook and promote their identity internationally. |
The Urban Community has set up a "International Relations" delegation to encourage projects that promote the area and espouse a spirit of international cooperation. The delegation launched an inventory of initiatives in the field taken by CDA member towns as well as by associations (of which there are more than 35 locally), businesses, schools and others.
From this a directory will soon be compiled listing the cosmopolitan exchanges existing within the conurbation. Trans-border town twinning is yet another vehicle for international relations which has existed for years.

Throughout history, La Rochelle has played
a very significant role. Its image today is like a prism, reflecting
a whole spectrum of activities - marine
industry, tourist attractions, export-oriented businesses both
large and small, initiatives in urban
ecology, international co-operation undertaken by the University,
especially with the Asia-Pacific region, to name just a few.
A multitude of relations and exchanges, in which the Urban Community
acts as a cohesive force and a catalyst for initiatives.
